Atatürk Airport National Garden has been opened to the public. Covering an area of 1 million 215 thousand square meters, the national garden features a green space and an event meadow that can accommodate 28 thousand people, making it the largest city park and disaster gathering area in Turkey. Inside the National Garden, there are 18 greenhouses, 9 market areas, a parking lot for 4 thousand vehicles, 12 tennis courts, 11 basketball courts, 6 volleyball courts, 6 football fields, and a skate park.
The Atatürk Airport People's Garden, constructed by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, was opened with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum. Various events will be organized for citizens after the opening. There will be treats for children and various workshop activities, along with Zero Waste applications.
TURKEY'S LARGEST CITY PARK AND DISASTER SHELTER TOKİ has redesigned the Atatürk Airport People's Garden as "Turkey's largest city park and disaster shelter." The Atatürk Airport People's Garden, which has a green area of 1 million 215 thousand square meters, also includes a disaster shelter that can accommodate more than 165 thousand people at the same time.
1 MILLION 215 THOUSAND SQUARE METERS OF GREEN AREA The new people's garden includes two complex buildings built on an area of 72 thousand 128 square meters, where citizens can spend time with their families, featuring exhibition halls, workshops, 4 soup kitchens, 4 restaurants, 4 bazaars, and 4 libraries. In the 1 million 215 thousand square meters of green area, there are 20 thousand 399 trees, 1 million 182 thousand 816 square meters of grass area, and an event meadow for 28 thousand people. The recreation areas will feature 7 hills representing Sarayburnu, Süleymaniye, Fatih, Yavuz Selim, Edirnekapı, Kocamustafapaşa, and Çemberlitaş. There will also be a 2.5-kilometer-long Ab-ı Hayat stream along the south-north axis of the garden.
As part of the project, 18 greenhouses, 9 market areas, and a parking lot for 4 thousand vehicles have also been constructed. In the sports area, there are 12 tennis courts, 11 basketball courts, 6 volleyball courts, 6 football fields, 2 skate parks, 10 thousand 679 square meters of bike paths, 85 thousand 371 square meters of walking paths, and 18 thousand 750 square meters of trail paths, along with 8 separate children's play areas.
DISASTER SHELTER The people's garden, which has a disaster shelter that can accommodate more than 165 thousand people at the same time, has been made accessible from 9 different points. The disaster shelter area includes a hangar building, cooking area, water reservoir, wind and solar energy plants, and 19 toilets.
313 PEOPLE'S GARDENS HAVE BEEN BUILT TO DATE To date, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has built 313 people's gardens across Turkey, covering a total green area of 36 million 560 thousand square meters. The construction of 231 people's gardens is ongoing in an area of 45 million 247 thousand square meters. In Istanbul alone, 34 people's gardens have been completed in an area of 5 million 577 thousand square meters, while the construction of 22 people's gardens is ongoing in an area of 13 million 425 thousand square meters.
"WE FINISHED THE PEOPLE'S GARDEN ON THE PROMISED DATE" Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum spoke at the opening ceremony of Turkey's largest city park, the Atatürk Airport People's Garden, inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Highlights from Minister Kurum's statements are as follows:
"Right now, we are all in the place where the face of that dark night of July 15 was turned to light. We are in a place where a saga was written and the President was supported. At this point, our friends worked tirelessly during those days, and they said many things about our people's garden. They said every place would be concrete. When that didn't hold, they said hotels would be built. Neither we nor our nation paid attention to these slanders, and we gifted what belongs to the people back to the people. Today, we are experiencing the joy of completing the Atatürk Airport Garden on the promised date.
"WE ARE WORKING FOR 450 THOUSAND HOUSES" We built this magnificent structure as an area where all needs can be met during a disaster. Whenever we open one of our projects, we always experience the same feeling. Thanks to your leadership, there is a Turkey that quickly makes investments that no other country can achieve. While delivering 304 thousand houses to our brothers in the earthquake zone, we are continuing our efforts to complete 450 thousand houses.
"THERE IS A TURKEY THAT SAYS NO ONE WILL BE WITHOUT A HOME" Today, there is a Turkey that says no one will be without a home. There is a Turkey that has provided 1 million 740 thousand houses for its people and is on the way to provide 500 thousand houses. We take pride in our state. The only thing we say to our nation wherever we go is this: There is only one country that will present these works worth billions of lira to its people, and that is the Republic of Turkey.
