US Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack said a new attack on Iran could be launched this weekend, while President Donald Trump stated he was not aware of such a plan. It was reported that the Tehran administration is considering targeting the internet infrastructure of Gulf countries against a possible US or Israeli attack.

As tensions between the US and Iran continue, conflicting statements from Washington have brought the possibility of a new military operation back onto the agenda. US Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria Tom Barrack said an attack on Iran could be carried out over the weekend, while US President Donald Trump said he was unaware of any such preparation. Meanwhile, it was claimed that Iran could target the Gulf countries' undersea internet cables in response to a possible attack.

BARRACK: THERE COULD BE AN ATTACK THIS WEEKEND

Speaking to podcast host Mario Nawfal, Tom Barrack was asked whether the US would carry out a new attack on Iran over the weekend.

Barrack replied, 'Could there be an attack this weekend? Absolutely. The President is very clear on this. I am relaying American policy to you.'

Also stating that Trump is open to an agreement with Iran, Barrack said, 'The President is open to a deal, reachable, and ready to talk. We have been at the negotiating table for months.' Barrack argued that a possible operation would not aim for regime change in Iran.

TRUMP: IF THERE IS SUCH A SITUATION, I AM NOT AWARE OF IT

Barrack's remarks were also put to US President Donald Trump. After saying, 'This is my Ambassador to Turkey. I think he is quite a strong man,' Trump said, 'If there is such a situation, I am not aware of it.'

In an earlier statement, Trump had said they could end a war with Iran quickly, using the words, 'We can finish it very quickly. Do we want to end it completely, or do we want to let it fizzle out on its own?'

IRAN'S RETALIATION PLAN REVEALED

After the statements from Washington, the retaliation plan that Iran is alleged to have prepared against a possible attack also drew attention.

According to two Iranian officials who spoke to Reuters, the Tehran government is considering targeting undersea internet cables in the Gulf region if the US or Israel carries out a new attack.

BANKING AND COMMUNICATIONS IN THE GULF TARGETED

The officials, who did not want their names disclosed, claimed that Iran plans not only to damage the internet cables but also to prevent repair work after the attack.

According to the claims, this move aims to disrupt the Gulf countries' internet connections and particularly to interrupt banking, communications, and information technology services.

While it is unknown whether the plan in question will be implemented, no official confirmation regarding the claims has been conveyed by the Iranian government.
