EU AMBASSADOR SUMMONED TO FOREIGN MINISTRY
According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the EU Ambassador to Baku, Marijana Kujundzic, was summoned to the Ministry. During the meeting, the statements in the European Parliament resolution targeting Azerbaijan were strongly condemned, and Baku's note was conveyed to the ambassador. Azerbaijan stated that the assessments in the resolution distort the facts and violate the principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
“INTERFERENCE IN INTERNAL AFFAIRS” REACTION
Baku administration emphasized that calls for the return of Armenians who left Karabakh constitute interference in Azerbaijan's internal affairs. The statement noted that in 2023, integration was offered to the Armenian population in Karabakh, but the Armenians in the region left of their own volition. Additionally, the call in the European Parliament resolution to release individuals described as “prisoners of war” was found legally unacceptable. Azerbaijan stated that these individuals were convicted of serious crimes such as terrorism, sabotage, and war crimes.
RESPONSE TO CULTURAL HERITAGE CLAIMS
The claims in the resolution that “cultural and religious heritage was destroyed” were also rejected. Azerbaijan argued that its own cultural heritage was largely destroyed during the occupation period and that European institutions did not adequately respond to this situation.
RADICAL DECISION FROM NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
The Azerbaijani National Assembly described the European Parliament's stance as “destructive” and decided to suspend all relations. The decision stated that the European Parliament ignores the principles of international law and justice and has become a tool of pressure against Azerbaijan. In this context, it was announced that processes have been initiated to terminate activities in the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee and to end membership in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
REGIONAL TENSION WARNING
