Semih Ozer, a member of EKOBID, lost his life after being hit by a car while cycling in the Gumushacikoy district of Amasya. The association stated that the incident was a preventable loss of life.
Semih Özer (61), a member of the Ecology Life Cycling Association (EKOBİD), lost his life when a car struck him while he was cycling in the Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya. Özer was laid to rest in his hometown of Gümüşhacıköy, while the EKOBİD administration stated, 'This is not an accident, it is a preventable loss of life.'
The accident occurred on July 9 in the Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya. A car hit EKOBİD member Semih Özer, who was on a cycling tour. Özer died in the accident. Semih Özer was buried in the same district on July 10 after prayers at the Gümüşhacıköy Köprülü Mehmet Paşa Mosque.

In a written statement by EKOBİD, it said, 'We are in deep sorrow. Unfortunately, cyclists in our country are struggling to survive under an ever-increasing risk in traffic every day. People who only want to pedal on the roads pay the price of carelessness, excessive speed, and non-compliance with rules with their lives. Every cyclist death is not just a statistic. Behind it are shattered families, unfinished dreams, and deep pain. We call on motor vehicle drivers once again. A bicycle is also a legal and equal means of transportation in traffic. A few seconds of inattention behind the wheel can cause irreparable pain. Please obey speed limits, maintain your following distance, and notice cyclists.
CAR DRIVER TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Impatience behind the wheel can cost a person's life. Our call to authorities is this: Infrastructure ensuring the safety of cyclists must be urgently expanded, traffic inspections must be increased, and training to raise driver awareness of cyclists must be effectively implemented. Safe roads are not a privilege but a fundamental right. As cyclists, we only want to pedal safely. We want to return to our loved ones safely when we leave our homes. We have lost another cyclist. This is not an accident, it is a preventable loss of life.'
Meanwhile, the car driver was taken into custody regarding the accident. The investigation into the matter continues.
