Famous musician Bob Dylan met with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. While it drew attention that the Nobel Prize-winning artist did not remove his hood during the meeting, which he attended in a black hooded outfit, Dylan's unusual clothing choice overshadowed the meeting.

Nobel Prize-winning musician Bob Dylan held a private meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. The artist's visit, drawing attention with his black hooded top and the hood he did not take off his head, made headlines more for his clothing choice than for the content of the meeting.

World-famous musician Bob Dylan was received by Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican. As photos of the private meeting held at the Apostolic Palace on November 4 were published, the most talked-about detail of the encounter was Dylan's outfit. Appearing before the Pope in his black jacket, gloves, and the hood he had pulled over his head, the artist maintained his unconventional style at the Vatican as well.

HIS OUTFIT OVERSHADOWED THE MEETING

In the meeting, which Pope Leo XIV attended in his white papal clothing, Bob Dylan's not removing his black hooded top was reflected in the photos. The artist's choice, seen keeping his hood on throughout the meeting, became one of the prominent details of the encounter in the international press.

Pope Leo also gave a humorous response to this choice, saying, “Thanks for wearing your costume, Bob!”

Dylan's appearance, which also aligned with his attitude of keeping his private life out of the public eye, became the subject of his fans' comments. No statement was made regarding why the artist attended the meeting with the Pope in this outfit.

A ROSARY FROM THE POPE, AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY FROM DYLAN

It was reported that the meeting at the Vatican was short and consisted of greetings and conversation. It was conveyed that Pope Leo XIV gave Dylan a rosary, while the famous musician gave the Pope his autobiography titled Chronicles: Volume One.

Jesuit priest Antonio Spadaro, who helped make the encounter happen, also accompanied the meeting.

THE POPE HAD QUOTED FROM DYLAN'S SONG

Pope Leo XIV's interest in Bob Dylan's music had come to the fore before. In the foreword to a book on disarmament and peace published in July 2026, the Pope referred to Dylan's anti-war work "Go Away You Bomb" (Stay Away, Bomb), written in 1963 but not officially recorded. The quotation from Dylan's protest song stood out as part of the Pope's call for peace and disarmament.

Dylan had also performed in 1997 at the National Eucharistic Congress in Bologna, which Pope John Paul II attended.
