Bonito, which was caught abundantly throughout the season in the Black Sea, has begun to migrate as the weather has cooled. As adverse weather conditions reduced the catch, the price of bonito sold at stalls for 75-100 TL rose to 125-150 TL. Fishermen said the season would last about one more month, but that it would not be as abundant as before.
Bonito, which has been caught in abundance in the Black Sea this season, has begun to migrate as the weather cools and is slowly losing its place on the fish counters. Fishmongers noted that the bonito season is approaching its final days and said that different types of fish will gain prominence on the counters in the coming period.
Bonito, caught in abundance in the Black Sea since the beginning of the season, has begun to migrate as the weather cools. In recent days, with the effect of adverse weather conditions, the amount of bonito caught has decreased, and it is seen less on fishmongers' counters while its price has also risen. The price of bonito, which was sold for between 75-100 TL during the season, has risen to 125-150 TL in recent days.
BONITO IS SLOWLY BEING BID FAREWELL
Fishmonger Bülent Ay noted that bonito has slowly begun to withdraw from the counters and said, "Bonito has slowly begun to withdraw from the counters. Soon we will begin to see different fish on the counters. We are slowly saying goodbye to bonito. As the weather cooled, bonito began to migrate. Our citizens do not show much interest in bonito as they did at first. This year, because our people had their fill of bonito, interest has also decreased. They have begun to turn to other varieties. In this region, our people first look for anchovy on the counter, and then turn to fish such as whiting and horse mackerel," he said.
THE SEASON WILL LAST ABOUT ONE MORE MONTH BUT WILL NOT BE AS ABUNDANT AS BEFORE
Fishmonger Emin Avcı, on the other hand, stated that the adverse weather conditions that have been effective for the past few days have negatively affected bonito fishing, and said, "Because there has been adverse weather for a few days, bonito has decreased. We are now approaching the final days of bonito. Since the weather is also bad, not much bonito is coming to the counters. Bonito is also a migratory fish. These periods are when it begins to migrate. We can say it is gradually decreasing. In terms of price, it used to be sold for 75-100 TL; now it is being sold for 125-150 TL. I think the bonito season will last about one more month, but it will not be as abundant as before. Our citizens do not show as much interest as before. This year there was a very good bonito catch. The citizens also had their fill of bonito. During this period, our people made salted fish, put it in the freezer, and grilled it," he said.
