Brussels Airlines, Belgium's flag carrier airline affiliated with the Lufthansa group, announced that it has only 4 to 6 weeks of jet fuel left due to the jet fuel crisis in Europe.
It has been reported that Belgium's flag carrier airline, Brussels Airlines, has 4 to 6 weeks of jet fuel left.
JET FUEL STOCK WILL RUN OUT AFTER 6 WEEKS
According to reports in the Belgian press, the jet fuel crisis in Europe is also affecting Brussels Airlines. Due to uncertainties caused by the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on oil trade, Brussels Airlines has enough jet fuel for the next 4-6 weeks.
"PLANNING TO REFUND PASSENGERS"
Beyond this period, the airline cannot guarantee continued full-capacity operations. In the event of flight cancellations due to jet fuel shortages, refunds to passengers are being planned.
Brussels Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, flies to 90 destinations. The company has around 3,700 employees and 46 aircraft.
JET FUEL PRICES HAVE MORE THAN DOUBLED
Due to conflicts in the Middle East and disruptions in shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, oil and natural gas prices in Europe have risen rapidly. In particular, jet fuel prices in Europe have more than doubled compared to last year.
Under normal conditions, EU refineries can meet 70% of jet fuel consumption. The remaining portion is imported, mainly from Middle Eastern and Gulf countries.
Last month, International Energy Agency Director Fatih Birol warned that Europe could face a jet fuel shortage risk in the near future.
KLM ANNOUNCED THE CANCELLATION OF 160 FLIGHTS
Dutch airline KLM announced that due to rising fuel costs, it would cancel 160 flights within Europe this month.
German airline Lufthansa also decided to suspend the operations of its subsidiary CityLine due to cost pressures. Additionally, Lufthansa announced it would cancel 20,000 short-haul flights planned until October due to the increase in jet fuel prices.
Low-cost airlines Ryanair and EasyJet, along with tourism company TUI, have revised their end-of-year forecasts downward due to adverse market conditions.
