DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, stating at the group meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly that the terrorist organization PKK had dissolved itself and laid down its arms, said, 'Now it is the turn of the state and the government to keep their word,' and called for Öcalan to be physically freed.
Speaking at DEM Party’s weekly group meeting, Hatimoğulları called for the Framework Law to be implemented without delay and for Öcalan’s physical freedom to be ensured.
“ONE SIDE TOOK A STEP AND KEPT ITS WORD”
Recalling that the process began with Öcalan’s call on February 27, Hatimoğulları said the following:
“On February 27, a door was opened with Mr. Öcalan’s call. The PKK courageously passed through that door. It dissolved itself, burned its weapons, and withdrew from Turkey. They announced that they had withdrawn from many camps, especially Metina. One side took a step and kept its word. Now it is the state’s and the government’s turn to keep their word.”
“WHY DELAY AND DRAG IT OUT?”
Noting that millions of citizens were asking when the law would be implemented, Hatimoğulları posed the following questions to the government:
“Where will those who burned their weapons go? How and under what conditions will they come? With what guarantees will those who want to return return? Why the delay and dragging out? Is the government acting according to its own calendar rather than the calendar being discussed? Does the government have a calendar for peace and democracy? If so, why is it not disclosing it to the public?”
“A NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL DECISION IS NEEDED”
Hatimoğulları, who said the Framework Law must be implemented without losing time, stated that a National Security Council decision was needed for this. Hatimoğulları claimed that the areas to be evacuated by the organization had been evacuated and that this information was present in the state’s reports.
Hatimoğulları said, “This law must be implemented so that those who laid down their weapons or those in the diaspora can return to the country, and those in prison can be released.” Also emphasizing that a monitoring committee should be established in Parliament, Hatimoğulları called on Parliament to actively assume its role of facilitating peace.
“THERE SHOULD BE NO NEW WALL INSTEAD OF THE OLD WALL”
Recalling that they had previously shared with the public that Öcalan had moved to a new place, Hatimoğulları spoke as follows:
“The strongest step in building peace is possible by ensuring free working and communication conditions for Mr. Öcalan, the main actor of the process, and by establishing the Peace and Politicization Committee Coordinatorship. The new place must not be a place where Mr. Öcalan has moved from an old prison to a new prison. There should be no new wall instead of the old wall.”
Hatimoğulları claimed that Öcalan had long wanted to meet with academics, politicians, women, and human rights defenders. Arguing that Öcalan saw this place as a working space where he would carry out the peace and politicization coordination, Hatimoğulları said, “To strengthen the political meaning of this new place, this door now needs to be opened all the way.”
SHE CONVEYED THE DEMANDS OF THE PEACE MOTHERS
Greeting the Peace Mothers, who attended the group meeting with their white headscarves, Hatimoğulları voiced the mothers’ demands. Hatimoğulları used the following expressions: “Their demands are very clear, sincere, and simple. They say the obstacles to peace should be removed, isolation should end, and Mr. Öcalan’s physical freedom should be ensured so that the process can progress healthily and achieve success. They say political prisoners should be released.”
Conveying that the mothers said, “Let us bury our weapons, not our children, in the grave,” Hatimoğulları called on all political parties, “The word of mothers is the guide to peace; listen to this word wholeheartedly.”
“WE WILL WIN PEACE THROUGH STRUGGLE”
Stating that DEM Party would resolutely continue its stance regarding the process, Hatimoğulları said, “Peace will not be served to us on a golden platter. We will win peace through struggle. We will build it through struggle.”
Claiming that there were groups that in practice did not want peace, Hatimoğulları said that those who wanted peace needed to raise their voices more. Calling on different political groups for a common struggle, Hatimoğulları concluded his speech with the words, “No power can stand in the way of peace. No matter what, we will bring peace to these lands.”
