A specific batch of Trilya brand 4-liter olive pomace oil sold in markets targeting Turkish consumers in Germany has been recalled. Analyses showed that the MOSH and MOAH values exceeded the guidance values by more than 10 times. Authorities asked consumers not to use the product and to return it due to compounds that may have carcinogenic properties.
A recall decision has been made for the 4-liter Trilya brand olive pomace oil sold in Germany. In the announcement published on August 27, 2026, it was reported that high levels of MOSH and MOAH were detected in a specific batch of the product during analyses.
It was stated that the mineral oil hydrocarbons in question exceeded the relevant guideline values by more than 10 times, and consumers were warned not to use the product.
ONLY COVERS A SPECIFIC BATCH
It was stated that the recall decision does not cover all Trilya brand products, but only applies to a specific batch.
The recalled product was announced as the 4-liter Trilya olive pomace oil. The product's batch number was announced as LS162703, and the recommended consumption date was March 27, 2027. The distribution of the product is carried out by the Germany-based Altay GmbH.
PUT ON SALE IN TWO FEDERAL STATES
It was reported that the recalled batch was put on sale in the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Authorities asked consumers who purchased the product with this batch number not to consume the oil and to return it to the point of purchase.
MOSH AND MOAH DETECTED IN ANALYSES
The analyses carried out on the product detected MOSH and MOAH, the two different groups of mineral oil hydrocarbons.
In particular, MOAH is among the substances closely monitored for food safety. The fact that this group can contain compounds that can damage genetic material and may exhibit carcinogenic properties raises concerns.
NEW REGULATION PROCESS IN THE EU
The European Union initiated a regulation process in 2026 to set maximum limits for MOAH in various food groups, including vegetable and animal oils.
Türkiye's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry also announced the draft regulation prepared by the European Union in March.
NOT OLIVE OIL, BUT OLIVE POMACE OIL
The nature of the product subject to the recall is also noteworthy. The product, which has Turkish expressions on its packaging, is recorded in official records not as natural or extra virgin olive oil, but as olive pomace oil (prina oil).
While Altay GmbH handles the distribution of the product in Germany, the recall notice did not share information about the country where the oil was produced.
