In a written statement by the Navy of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, it was stated, "A supertanker attempting to cross via an illegal route from the south of the Strait of Hormuz caught fire and came to a complete stop after striking two sea mines."

In the statement, warning that "the fate of ships violating security regulations in the Strait of Hormuz will be similar," it was said, "It is mandatory to comply with the passage and navigation regulations issued by the Revolutionary Guard Naval Forces. Shipping companies should not be deceived by the provocations of the child-murdering US military and should not unnecessarily endanger the property and lives of their ships' crews."
