"IF NÂZIM WERE ALIVE TODAY, HE WOULD SAY 'FREE GAZA, FREE PALESTINE'"

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Eyyüp Kadir İnan made assessments regarding Nâzım Hikmet's literary legacy.

Arguing that Nâzım Hikmet should not be confined within the boundaries of a specific political group, İnan said, "Claiming that only a certain group can mention him is to reduce Nâzım from being a world poet to a 'faction mascot'."

İnan also touched upon Nâzım Hikmet's removal from Turkish citizenship in 1951, reminding that his citizenship was reinstated in 2009 with the signature of then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In his speech, İnan also mentioned the children who lost their lives in Gaza, arguing that if Nâzım Hikmet were alive today, he would say "Free Gaza, Free Palestine!"
