Charging power banks on airplanes has been officially banned.

With the new directive published by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, restrictions have been imposed on the use of power banks on aircraft. While charging power banks during flight has been prohibited, passengers are allowed to carry a maximum of two portable batteries. Additionally, charging electronic devices with power banks on the aircraft is not recommended. The regulation covers aviation operators and ground services, while batteries used for equipment purposes are excluded.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) has published a new Flight Operations Directive regarding portable batteries. With the directive prepared in line with the changes in ICAO's technical instructions, new rules for lithium batteries and portable electronic devices carried by passengers and crew members have come into effect.

DIRECTIVE OFFICIALLY PUBLISHED

The said regulation was published as a document on SHGM's official website. It was emphasized that the new rules aim to increase flight safety.

BANNED CHARGING DURING FLIGHT

According to the directive, charging power banks during flight is prohibited. Additionally, the number of portable batteries a passenger can carry is limited to a maximum of two. It was also stated that the use of power banks for charging portable electronic devices on the aircraft is not recommended.

BROAD SCOPE, EXCEPTION FOR CREW MEMBERS

The regulation was stated to cover commercial air transport operators, general aviation operators, and ground handling organizations. While batteries carried by crew members within the scope of operational requirements are excluded from this restriction, batteries carried for personal use are subject to the new rules.
