An indictment has been prepared requesting an aggravated life sentence for Adalet Uzunoğlu, who killed her husband, retired police officer Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu, in Bursa, then dismembered his body into 15 pieces with an axe and knife and disposed of them in garbage containers, on charges of 'qualified intentional homicide against a spouse'. Although Adalet Uzunoğlu claimed that her husband died from falling down the stairs, criminal investigations and evidence revealed that she committed the crime.
In the indictment prepared against Adalet Uzunoğlu (69), a mother of three, who is accused of killing her husband, retired police officer Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu (77), and then dismembering his body into 15 pieces using an axe and a knife before dumping them in trash bins and containers, an aggravated life sentence was sought for the crime of 'qualified intentional homicide against a spouse.'
The indictment stated that Adalet Uzunoğlu laid down bags to prevent blood splatter while dismembering her husband's body, hid the blood-stained clothes in the toilet drain, and placed the body parts in bags into trash containers located in blind spots outside the view of security cameras.
The incident occurred on January 28 in a third-floor apartment of a three-story building on İzzet Street in the Selamet neighborhood of Osmangazi district. According to the claim, Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu was killed by his wife Adalet Uzunoğlu. It was alleged that Adalet Uzunoğlu dismembered the body into 15 pieces with a meat cleaver and a knife, placed them in bags, and threw them into trash bins and containers in her street and surrounding areas. On January 30 at around 21:30, Adalet Uzunoğlu applied to the police station, claiming her husband had gone downstairs to check the doorbell two days earlier and never returned, filing a missing person report. Upon the missing person report, teams investigating the case found Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu's mobile phone, wallet, and ID at the home they visited for information. Blood traces were also found in various parts of the house.
TISSUE PIECES ALSO DETECTED
Due to contradictions in Adalet Uzunoğlu's statements to police teams, an investigation was initiated by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. While teams from the Provincial Security Directorate's Public Order Branch, Homicide Bureau, were assigned, crime scene investigation teams were dispatched to the scene. In the examinations conducted in the apartment on the top floor of the building, which was learned to have its first two floors vacant, blood traces were found at the entrance, on electrical outlets, in the sink, and on the cleaver and knife found in the house. Biological examinations also revealed tissue pieces in various parts of the house.
EVIDENCE BELONGING TO MISSING HUSBAND FOUND
The collected biological samples, along with the cleaver and knife, were sent to the Bursa Regional Criminal Police Laboratory for examination. During this process, Adalet Uzunoğlu was placed under technical and physical surveillance. The criminal investigation determined that the blood and tissue samples belonged to Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu, who had been reported missing, and that the fingerprints on the cleaver and knife belonged to Adalet Uzunoğlu.
"HE FELL DOWN THE STAIRS AND DIED" DEFENSE
Following the criminal report, on April 3, Adalet Uzunoğlu, along with her sons F.U. (48) and M.U. (50), and her brother M.Ö. (65), were taken into custody. In her police statement, Uzunoğlu claimed she did not kill her husband but admitted to dismembering the body, saying, "On the morning of the incident, when I woke up, he was lying motionless in front of the stairs. He had fallen down the stairs and died. I was afraid they would think I pushed him and blame me. I dismembered my husband into 15 pieces with a cleaver and a knife and threw them into various trash bins near my home."
RELATIVES RELEASED
Adalet Uzunoğlu was arrested on April 5 by the court on charges of 'intentional homicide.' Her two sons and brother, who were also taken into custody as part of the investigation, were released under judicial supervision.
LAST FOOTAGE REVEALED
The last footage of Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu before he was killed was also captured by security cameras. Uzunoğlu was seen leaving a memorial ceremony at a mosque at 00:18 on the day of the incident, January 28, holding a fruit juice.
SHE SHOWED THE LOCATIONS WHERE BODY PARTS WERE DUMPED
Examinations conducted in trash bins in the street and surrounding areas where the home was located did not reveal any body parts. It was revealed that Adalet Uzunoğlu was taken to the crime scene for a reconstruction on April 4, one day before her arrest. Accompanied by the prosecutor and police officers, Uzunoğlu was brought to the street where her home was located and described which trash bins and containers she had thrown the body parts into. The events during the site visit were also captured by a security camera from a nearby house.
BLOODY CLOTHES FOUND IN TOILET DRAIN
In the indictment prepared after the completion of the investigation by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that Adalet Uzunoğlu used bags to prevent blood splatter while dismembering the body, hid the bloody clothes in the toilet drain, and dumped the body parts into containers in areas not visible to security cameras.
"I WENT CRAZY, I PICKED UP THE DEAD MAN AND THREW HIM AWAY"
The indictment noted that during a phone conversation with her children, Uzunoğlu said, "I went crazy, my dear. I picked up the dead man and threw him away," but in her statement, she did not admit to killing her husband. It was reported that Uzunoğlu claimed she dismembered her husband, whom she found motionless at the top of the stairs, into 10-15 pieces with an axe found at home and dumped them in the trash to avoid being held responsible for his death. It was also stated that during the site visit, she described in detail how she dismembered the body and into which containers she placed the parts.
"I BAGGED THE PIECES SEPARATELY"
The indictment also included Adalet Uzunoğlu's statement to the police. The statement reportedly contained the following words:
"On January 28, my husband left the house to go to morning prayer. Shortly after, I went out to the apartment door to throw out the trash. On the ground floor, by the stairs, I saw my husband lying down. When I went to check, I couldn't feel a pulse. I thought he was dead, and in a panic, so no one would think I killed him, I started dismembering him."
I bagged the parts separately. I also covered the surroundings with bags while cutting. I dismembered the corpse with a hatchet. I distributed the bagged parts among the trash around my house.
THE SUPREME COURT'S PRECEDENT DECISION ENTERED THE FILE
In the indictment detailing the incident, although the victim's body could not be found, attention was drawn to the precedent decision of the Supreme Court 1st Criminal Chamber. The decision stated, "The fact that the body has not been found does not alone mean that the crime was not committed."
The indictment also noted that the defendant had previously used statements to those around her, such as "He always oppressed me, he oppresses me" regarding herself and her children. When the defendant's statements, criminal reports, scientific data, the manner in which the incident occurred, and mutually supporting evidence were evaluated together, it was understood that Ali Fuat Uzunoğlu was intentionally killed and that systematic attempts were subsequently made to eliminate the evidence of the crime.
While a decision of non-prosecution was made regarding the defendant's children S.U., F.U., and M.U., and her sibling M.Ö., the trial of Adalet Uzunoğlu is set to begin in the coming days under the indictment accepted by the Heavy Criminal Court.
