In Antalya, motorcycle mechanic Gürhan Üzer set his ex-wife Pınar Zorlu on fire by pouring gasoline on her. Following the incident, Zorlu was severely injured, while Üzer was apprehended shortly after. In his statement, Üzer claimed that he committed this act because his ex-wife did not allow him to see their child.
In Antalya, motorcycle mechanic Gürhan Üzer set his ex-wife Pınar Zorlu on fire with gasoline 20 days after their divorce. Zorlu was seriously injured, while the fleeing suspect Üzer was caught.
HE POURED A BUCKET OF GASOLINE ON THE WOMAN
The incident occurred around 08:30 in the Şirinyalı neighborhood of the Muratpaşa district on İsmet Gökşen Street. Motorcycle mechanic Gürhan Üzer followed Pınar Zorlu, whom he divorced on December 11, to his workplace. After leaving his motorcycle near the workplace, Üzer began to argue with Zorlu. As the argument escalated, Üzer poured a bucket of gasoline he had brought with him over Zorlu.
CITIZENS INTERVENED TO THE BURNING WOMAN
Üzer caught the woman who was trying to escape and ignited the lighter in his hand. While the suspect was fleeing, bystanders intervened with a fire extinguisher to help the woman whose body was engulfed in flames. Teams that arrived after the notification provided first aid and took Pınar Zorlu, a mother of one, to the burn center at Akdeniz University Hospital.
"THE WOMAN HAD BURNS AND COULD NOT SEE"
Dursade Öner, who worked at a business across from where the incident occurred, said, "I was working at the butcher shop across the street. I heard a loud noise. Then I heard the woman's scream. I started running with the woman who worked at the business. We had difficulty crossing due to traffic. By the time we got there, he had already poured gasoline and set the woman on fire. Our coworkers extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher. The woman had burns and could not see. Her face, hair, hands, and feet were completely burned," she said.
HE SET HER ON FIRE BECAUSE SHE DID NOT SHOW THEIR CHILD
While the woman's shoes, burned coat, and the bucket used for gasoline were collected as evidence, the police caught the suspect within an hour. Gürhan Üzer, who was taken into custody, was handed over to the Homicide Bureau teams. In his first statement, Gürhan Üzer said, "My ex-wife's behavior changed after our divorce. She was not showing me my child. For this reason, I went to her workplace this morning. Before going, I bought gasoline from the gas station. I normally had no intention of doing such a thing, but it came to my mind this morning. I tried to talk for a while, but when we argued, I carried out the act." It was learned that Pınar Zorlu had previously obtained restraining orders against her ex-husband 3-4 times.
