(ANKARA) -
China plans to carry out its first crewed landing on the Moon by 2030. According to the plan announced at the 7th Human Space Symposium held in the capital Beijing, after the spacecraft sent into lunar orbit by two separate rockets dock, two of the three astronauts will land on the lunar surface.
According to reports in Chinese state media, China has announced details of the mission plan it has prepared as part of its goal to carry out a crewed landing on the Moon before 2030. At the 7th Human Space Symposium held in the capital Beijing, information was provided about the process covering the launch of the spacecraft to be sent to the Moon, their docking in orbit, and the astronauts' return to Earth.
TWO ROCKETS, THREE ASTRONAUTS
According to the plan announced by Wang Xiang, deputy chief designer of China's Human Space Program, two Long March-10 carrier rockets will be used as part of the mission. One of the rockets will launch the lunar lander named Lanyue, and the other will launch the Mengzhou spacecraft, which has a capacity to carry three astronauts.
The two vehicles that will meet in lunar orbit will, after the docking operation, allow the astronauts to transfer to the lander. Two of the three astronauts will land on the lunar surface with Lanyue, while the third astronaut will remain in the Mengzhou spacecraft. The astronauts, who will conduct scientific research on the lunar surface, will ascend back to lunar orbit with Lanyue after completing their missions. A second docking with the Mengzhou spacecraft will be carried out there. After the astronauts transfer to Mengzhou, the three-person crew is planned to return to Earth.
TESTING FOR THE LUNAR LANDING CONTINUES
As part of China's crewed lunar program, development work continues on the Long March-10 rocket, the Mengzhou spacecraft, and the Lanyue lander. According to reports in the Chinese media, various tests have been carried out regarding Mengzhou's emergency escape system, Lanyue's landing and takeoff capability, and the flight performance of the Long March-10 rocket.
