Social media influencer Kerimcan Durmaz and his close friend Selin Ciğerci were among the names detained in the operation conducted as part of a drug investigation. It drew attention that Durmaz, who was previously arrested due to an illegal gambling investigation and stayed in prison for 43 days, has once again become the focus of a judicial process.
22 people were detained in an operation carried out within the scope of a drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Simultaneous raids were carried out at numerous addresses, and among the detained names were social media phenomenon Kerimcan Durmaz and his close friend Selin Ciğerci.
While it was learned that the suspects' procedures at the police station are ongoing, it was stated that there may be new detentions within the scope of the investigation.
KERIMCAN DURMAZ ONCE AGAIN AT THE CENTER OF THE INVESTIGATION
Among the names detained in the operation were Ayşe Hatun Önal, Kenan Doğulu, Beren Saat, Enis Arıkan, and Selin Ciğerci, as well as Kerimcan Durmaz.
Durmaz's name had previously come to the agenda with an illegal betting investigation that caused widespread public reaction. An investigation was launched against the social media phenomenon on the claim that he encouraged illegal betting advertisements, and Durmaz was arrested on January 8, 2025.
HE SPENT 43 DAYS IN PRISON
Kerimcan Durmaz, who spent approximately 43 days in prison, was released on February 20, 2025.
The court sentenced Durmaz to 1 year and 8 months in prison for the crime of "encouraging people to advertise and otherwise play fixed-odds or mutual betting or games of chance based on sports competitions," and also decided to continue the judicial control measure of a ban on leaving the country.
SELIN CIGERCI SUPPORTED HER FRIEND DURING THAT PERIOD
Following Kerimcan Durmaz's arrest, the biggest support came from his close friend Selin Ciğerci.
Ciğerci visited Durmaz's family and, in a statement, argued that her friend had no involvement in illegal betting activities. Making a tearful statement, Ciğerci said she believed justice would prevail.
