After the 3.5-magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Yalova in the Sea of Marmara, statements came from three experts. Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan evaluated the tremor as a local release of tension, while Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy said he did not expect a major earthquake in the region. Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz, on the other hand, stated that the earthquake may have occurred on the continuation of the fault that ruptured on August 17, and that it was not on the Adalar Fault connected to Istanbul.

After the 3.5-magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Yalova in the Sea of Marmara, attention turned to experts' assessments. Statements regarding the tremor, which was also felt in Istanbul and surrounding provinces, came from Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan, Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy and Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz.

ERCAN: NO PROBLEM

Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan assessed the earthquake that occurred off the coast of Yalova as local activity. Ercan stated that the tremor was not a cause for concern, using the expressions, “It is a local release of tension. There is no problem.”

ÜŞÜMEZSOY: I EXPECT AN EARTHQUAKE OF AT MOST MAGNITUDE 5

Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy also said that he does not expect a major tremor in the region where the earthquake occurred. Üşümezsoy explained his view on the possible earthquake magnitude in the region, saying, “A major earthquake is not expected in the region. At most 5.”

TÜYSÜZ: IT IS NOT THE ADALAR FAULT CONNECTED TO ISTANBUL

Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz, on the other hand, made an assessment regarding the fault line where the earthquake occurred. Tüysüz used the expressions, “It is probably the continuation of the fault that ruptured on August 17. It is not the Adalar Fault connected to Istanbul.”

THE MAGNITUDE OF THE EARTHQUAKE WAS MEASURED AS 3.5

According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred at 22:08 off the coast of Yalova in the Sea of Marmara.

The Kandilli Observatory also announced the magnitude of the tremor, which occurred at a depth of 7.96 kilometers, as 3.5.

After the earthquake, which was also felt in Istanbul and surrounding provinces, the assessments of three experts included different technical explanations regarding the region where the tremor occurred and the possible earthquake magnitude.
