Following the ship disaster in the TRNC that claimed the lives of 9 people, Erhan Arıklı, the leader of the Rebirth Party (YDP), who was dismissed from his post as Minister of Public Works and Transport by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, announced that the Party Assembly has decided to withdraw from the government.
Nine people lost their lives when a catamaran-type vessel belonging to Filo Maritime capsized off the coast of Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Sunday. The body of one of the 20 missing passengers was recovered, while search and rescue efforts continue.
ARIKLI'S PARTY WITHDRAWS FROM THE GOVERNMENT
The disaster caused a government crisis in the TRNC. TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel dismissed Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı from his post. Following the decision, an unexpected move came from Arıklı. Arıklı, who is also the Chairman of the Revival Party (YDP), announced that the Party Assembly had decided to withdraw from the government. Arıklı stated that the decision would be communicated in writing to Prime Minister Ünal Üstel tomorrow.
