The leader of the Future Party, Ahmet Davutoğlu, said, "They insulted me for years because I said we would pray in the Umayyad Mosque. Today, prayers are being held in the Umayyad Mosque. One day, with God's permission, we will go and pray there too."

Since November 27, Wednesday, in Syria, opposition groups, under the leadership of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and with the support of the Syrian National Army (SNA), have captured Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Tel Rifaat, Homs, and the capital Damascus in their operation against the Assad regime. Ahmet Davutoğlu, the Chairman of the Future Party, spoke about the recent developments at Turkey's border during a program he attended on TV100.

"I WAS INSULTED FOR YEARS, PRAYING AT THE UMAYYAD MOSQUE TODAY"

Davutoğlu stated, "I was insulted for years for saying we would pray at the Umayyad Mosque. Today, prayers are being held at the Umayyad Mosque. One day, we will also go and pray, God willing."

"THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD SEND EVERYONE WHO WORKED IN TURKEY TO DAMASCUS"

Continuing his speech, Davutoğlu advised the government, "The government should send everyone who has worked in Turkey to Damascus. A transitional government should be established with their accumulated knowledge. Immediately bring together the Kurds in Hasakah, the Arab Alawites in Latakia, the Turkmen in Aleppo, and the Sunnis, Arabs, Armenians, Syriacs, and Christians in Damascus. A national reconciliation effort should, of course, be carried out in Damascus, but Turkey's inventory, which has been a disadvantage until now, is now an advantage. It was said that there are this many refugees in Turkey; now we need to send the best of them as supportive elements from Turkey."

WHAT DID HE SAY?

Davutoğlu, while responding to criticisms of the opposition regarding Syria policies on September 5, 2012, had stated, "Inshallah, we will go to Damascus as soon as possible and embrace our brothers there with love. That day is near. Inshallah, we will read Fatiha at the grave of Salah ad-Din al-Ayyubi, and we will also pray at the Umayyad Mosque. We will freely pray for our brotherhood at the tomb of Bilal al-Habashi, at the tomb of Ibn Arabi, at the Suleymaniye Complex, and at the Hejaz Railway Station."
