Decision from the crisis PM: The regular congress schedule in CHP will be announced

11.06.2026 16:51

Before the Party Assembly meeting chaired by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the CHP, 28 PM members close to Özgür Özel resigned. Following the resignations, the PM convened with 28 members. CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı stated after the meeting, "The addressee of the resignations is not the CHP headquarters, but the relevant court. We have decided to announce the ordinary congress calendar at the Party Assembly."

The debates that began after the 'absolute nullity' decision in the CHP also reflected on the Party Assembly meeting. Before the meeting to be held under the chairmanship of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, 28 Party Assembly members close to Özgür Özel resigned.

The resignation letters were delivered to the CHP Headquarters by CHP TBMM Group Deputy Mustafa Biçer. Following the resignations, the CHP Party Assembly convened with 28 members, excluding those with excuses. After the meeting, CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı made statements.

Sarı stated, 'We have decided to announce an ordinary congress calendar in the Party Assembly.'

'PM MET WITH INCOMPLETE MEMBERS'

CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı, who made statements after the meeting, said the Party Assembly met with incomplete members. Sarı said, 'The PM met with incomplete members. There were colleagues who stated they resigned. We hoped to hold a full PM meeting. But this was not possible.'

'THE ADDRESSEE OF THE RESIGNATIONS IS NOT THE CHP HEADQUARTERS'

Müslim Sarı stated that the list they received consisted of resignation letters from 27 PM members, noting that 30 members continued their duties in the 57-member Party Assembly.

In his assessment of the resignations, Sarı said, 'Resignation is a unilateral process, but certain procedures and principles must be followed. The addressee of the resignations is not the CHP Headquarters. Since we came to office through the authorization of the Court of Appeals, the resignations need to be evaluated by the relevant court.'

'WE DECIDED TO CREATE AN ORDINARY CONGRESS CALENDAR'

Sarı, noting that the congress process was also on the agenda at the Party Assembly meeting, said the debate between ordinary and extraordinary congress continues due to the legal situation.

Sarı stated, 'We have decided to announce a congress calendar to initiate the ordinary congress process and to work on it. Of course, questions may come: 'Why an ordinary congress instead of an extraordinary congress?'

'Because you need to set a date for the extraordinary congress. However, we cannot set this date within the framework of the current court decision. This is because there is a court ruling that has not yet been finalized, and we cannot predict when it will be finalized. Therefore, we cannot simply say, 'Let's hold a congress on this date.'

PM NUMBER DEBATE

The Özel wing emphasized that with the resignations, the total number of members fell below two-thirds, making it mandatory to hold a congress within 45 days. In the statement made, it was announced that both the PM and the MYK elected from within it had officially collapsed, according to Article 24/3 of the Party Bylaws.

EXPULSION REQUEST FOR 9 MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

With the party's Central Executive Board decision yesterday, the definitive expulsion of 9 members of parliament was requested with precautionary measures, and their party memberships were suspended.

With the absence of PM members Umut Akdoğan, Özgür Karabat, Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu, and Veli Ağbaba among these names, the PM was expected to convene with 53 members. However, with the resignation of 28 names close to Özgür Özel, the PM's number dropped even further.

KILIÇDAROĞLU ADMINISTRATION DISCUSSES CONGRESS

In a statement made in recent days, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu indicated that they would initiate the congress process with the first Party Assembly meeting to be held on Thursday, June 11.

According to Müslim Sarı's statements, the congress process was discussed at the PM meeting, but no definitive decision regarding the calendar was announced.
