The claim that Germany sent illegal refugees of Syrian, Afghan, and Pakistani origin to Turkey caused a major uproar. Denying the reports in some media outlets, the Directorate of Communications stated that there is no practice of Turkey accepting third-country nationals and emphasized that the Readmission Agreement only covers Turkish citizens. It also announced that legal proceedings have been initiated regarding content aimed at misleading the public.

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications' Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) issued a statement regarding allegations in some media outlets that 'Germany is sending citizens of Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other countries to Turkey under the Readmission Agreement.'

'ALLEGATIONS DO NOT REFLECT THE TRUTH'

In a statement made on DMM's social media account, it was stated that the said news is not true. The statement indicated that Turkey has no practice of accepting third-country nationals from other countries.

'READMISSION AGREEMENT ONLY COVERS TURKISH CITIZENS'

The Center reminded that the Turkey-European Union Readmission Agreement applies only to Turkish citizens. It was noted that foreign nationals are not taken back by Turkey under this framework, and the relevant individuals are sent to their own countries.

The statement also emphasized that it is not legally possible to return foreigners with criminal records or without legal residence rights to Turkey.

LEGAL PROCESS INITIATED

DMM announced that necessary legal processes have been initiated regarding content aimed at misleading the public through perception and provocation.

Calling on citizens, the Center stated that only official institutions' statements should be taken into account regarding such allegations.
