It has been learned that the claims regarding Zuhal Böcek, the daughter-in-law of Muhittin Böcek who was arrested in the bribery investigation based in Istanbul targeting the corruption network at the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, being released do not reflect the truth, and her detention continues.

Within the scope of the 'bribery' and 'corruption' investigation into Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Muhittin Böcek was taken into custody on July 5. Böcek, who was referred to the courthouse on the same day, was arrested and suspended from his duty.

Böcek was arrested by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of 'bribery' and 'extortion' regarding the municipal subsidiary ANSET, and for allegedly causing a total public loss of 399 million 507 thousand liras through the Antalya Water and Wastewater Administration (ASAT) Directorate and its subsidiary company Altyapı Yönetim ve Danışmanlık Ticaret A.Ş. (ALDAŞ).

HOUSE ARREST DECISION IN PUBLIC LOSS CASE

Muhittin Böcek's lawyers filed an application for the removal of the arrest warrant. The court panel, evaluating the situation, decided to convert the arrest into house arrest. Muhittin Böcek's detention continues in the cases he is being tried for related to the municipality's subsidiary companies.

ZUHAL BÖCEK RELEASED

On the other hand, it was alleged that Böcek's daughter-in-law Zuhal Böcek, who was arrested in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of 'bribery', was released. However, it was learned that this claim does not reflect the truth.

GAVE ADDITIONAL STATEMENT UNDER ACTIVE REMORSE

Meanwhile, Zuhal Böcek had given an additional statement under the provisions of active remorse, like her father-in-law Muhittin Böcek and her husband Gökhan Böcek. In her statement to the prosecutor's office, Zuhal Böcek stated that she did not know what her husband Gökhan Böcek did for a living or what his sources of income were.

Describing that her husband came from a wealthy family, paid off his parents' debts, and provided financial support, Böcek claimed: "I never saw Gökhan come home with a bag full of money. I didn't know he used drugs. Once, I saw white powder residue in his wallet. I suspected Gökhan was using drugs. After that, I started going through his wallet and such. Although the forensic medicine report stated that I used drugs, I have never used drugs in my life."

Regarding the phrase "loser living on 10 percent" found in her phone during a previous examination, Zuhal Böcek claimed that she said it due to disagreements about a 10 percent difference in a plot of land they co-owned with her uncles, and that she didn't know if her husband was involved in the municipality's tender processes or whether he received around a 10 percent share from contractors doing business with the municipality.

Böcek was informed that "on May 25, 2024, she purchased a duplex apartment, and when examining online listings of apartments for sale in the same neighborhood, 1+1 apartments were over 5 million 300 thousand lira and 2+1 apartments were over 7.5 million lira," and was asked about the normality of the 4+1 apartment she bought being worth 3.5 million lira given its location and size.

Böcek claimed that she bought the apartment from the construction site and was told it would cost at most 7 million lira when completed, and continued as follows: "I paid for it by selling my car. For the car I used, I gave the sale price of my old car. My husband Gökhan Böcek covered the rest. I bought this car that way. I sent it from my account to the seller company. Sales records can be examined. Someone I didn't know came to my residence. Gökhan had mentioned that this person would come beforehand. When this person came, I took notes of what he said, and later I identified the person within the scope of the investigation conducted in Antalya."

Regarding the money sent to her account from a jeweler, Böcek stated: "I had given my saved gold to Gökhan. Gökhan might have cashed the gold here. My husband Gökhan Böcek was handling the vehicle purchases and sales. O.N. was working as Gökhan's driver. Gökhan might have had the money sent by O.N. transferred to my account."
