In Germany, the number of foreigners deported in the first nine months of 2026 decreased by 18.9 percent, while the number sent to Turkey increased. In the country, where a total of 14,324 people were deported, Turkey ranked first with 2,025 Turkish citizens. In the list followed by Georgia and Algeria, it also drew attention that there were more than 1,500 children among those deported.
The latest data announced regarding deportation procedures in Germany revealed a striking picture for Turkish citizens. According to data shared by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and reported by Artı49, a total of 14,324 people were deported from Germany in the January-September period of 2026. While this number, which was 17,651 in the same period last year, decreased by 18.9 percent, the number of those sent to Turkey increased.
TURKEY RANKS FIRST AMONG THOSE DEPORTED
Turkish citizens accounted for 2,025 of those deported from Germany in the first nine months of the year. With this figure, Turkey became the country to which the highest number of deportations were carried out, followed by Georgia in second place with 883 people and Algeria in third place with 629 people. Despite the decline in overall deportations, the increase in the number of people sent to Turkey compared with the same period last year drew attention.
ASYLUM APPLICATIONS FELL SHARPLY
There was also a marked decline in asylum applications in Germany. In the first six months of 2026, the number of first-time asylum applicants was recorded as 39,646. In the same period last year, this figure stood at 72,818. It is noted that the decline in applications should be evaluated together with the decrease in the number of deportations.
A decline was also observed in readmission procedures to other European Union countries. While the number of people sent to France fell from 842 to 481, Spain was not among the top 10 countries to which the most deportations were carried out this year.
INCREASE IN VOLUNTARY RETURNS
Unlike forced deportations, an increase was recorded in the number of people voluntarily leaving Germany with state support. Under the REAG/GARP program, while 12,263 people returned to their countries in the first nine months of 2025, the number rose to 14,140 in the same period this year. Thus, there was an increase of approximately 15.3 percent in voluntary returns.
MORE THAN 1,500 CHILDREN DEPORTED
According to Federal Government data, more than 1,500 children and 380 young people were among those deported in the first nine months of 2026. In the same period, 6 people were sent to Syria, more than 200 to Afghanistan, and 3 to Iran. It was reported that most of those deported to Afghanistan had committed crimes in Germany.
