Deputy Speaker of Parliament Celal Adan to AK Party deputy: Stop blabbering

During a roll call crisis in the Turkish Grand National Assembly General Assembly, Deputy Parliament Speaker Celal Adan reacted to deputies who did not attend the session, saying, 'I condemn the deputies who forced us to take a half-hour break.' During the debates, he stated, 'There are no children of your father here. You will come, you will attend,' and told an AK Party deputy, 'Stop being a chatterbox.'

The Turkish Grand National Assembly General Assembly convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Celal Adan to discuss the second part of the Draft Law on the Social Services Law and Amendments to Certain Laws, whose first 24 articles were adopted, including the restriction of social media for those under 15 and the extension of women's maternity leave from 16 weeks to 24 weeks.

REQUEST FOR ROLL CALL AND ADJOURNMENT DECISION

While the General Assembly was discussing the New Path Party's proposal regarding hobby gardens, the CHP Group requested a roll call. When a quorum could not be reached in the roll call, Adan adjourned the session for half an hour. As reactions to this decision rose from the CHP benches, Adan said, “There is no other way. Let Mr. Akbaşoğlu and colleagues come. Even if I gave Mr. Günaydın the world, it wouldn't hurt me, but let me not be the addressee of this problem.”

“I CONDEMN THE MPS WHO DID NOT ATTEND”

Speaking at the General Assembly, which reconvened after the break, Adan criticized the MPs who did not attend the meeting, stating, “We are managing the Turkish Grand National Assembly, which represents the will of our nation, founded the state; both our founding and Veteran Assembly. The topic under discussion today concerns both our mothers and our children. I condemn the MPs who did not attend the meeting, forcing us to take a half-hour break.”

TENSION RISES IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Reacting to the voices coming from the AK Party benches during Adan's speech, Adan said, “There are no children of your fathers here. You will come and attend.” In the tension with AK Party Uşak Deputy Fahrettin Tuğrul, the words “Will you come here? Come and speak. I'll give you the floor. Don't babble” drew attention.

EXCHANGES BETWEEN CHP AND AK PARTY

As the quorum was achieved with the repetition of the roll call, the debates continued. CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın said, “You will turn the regulations into a mess, then expect support from the opposition. If I request a roll call and your MPs are absent, sometimes when 10 minutes, half an hour, or 1 hour is given, I understand the reason; but I don't question it so as not to be disrespectful.”

AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Muhammet Emin Akbaşoğlu responded to the criticisms, stating, “There is not the slightest doubt. This is the duration that should be given in the first roll calls. Is there any possibility for an MP to come here from the public relations building in 5 or 10 minutes? It is not possible.” The General Assembly continued its work after the quorum was achieved.
