In Istanbul’s Kağıthane, 44-year-old Kenan A., who seriously wounded his 45-year-old ex-girlfriend Sibel A. and her 35-year-old boyfriend Erkan K. with a handgun, was arrested on the charge of “intentional injury.” The suspect’s statement at the police station has emerged. Kenan A. claimed that Erkan K. came to the front of his house after threatening him by phone and walked toward him with a sword-like object in his hand.
In Kağıthane, a person who argued with his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend opened fire with a handgun, seriously injuring both of them. In the statement of the arrested suspect, claims were included regarding ongoing lawsuits and threats between the parties.
THE ARGUMENT ENDED WITH AN ARMED ATTACK
In the incident that occurred in Çeliktepe Neighborhood on Wednesday, August 5, at around 00:30, according to the information obtained, Sibel A. and Erkan K. encountered the woman's ex-boyfriend, Kenan A. The argument that broke out between the parties quickly turned into a fight. Kenan A., who drew his handgun, opened fire on Sibel A. and Erkan K.
Upon the report, medical and police teams were dispatched to the area. It was learned that Sibel A. and Erkan K., who were taken to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Training and Research Hospital after initial intervention, had overcome the danger to their lives.
THE MOMENT OF THE INCIDENT WAS ON CAMERA
What happened was recorded with a mobile phone camera. The footage includes moments when an argument broke out between the parties, Kenan A. fired a handgun, and those around experienced panic. In another video, shouts and gunshots are heard while the injured are seen lying on the ground.
CAUGHT WITH AN UNLICENSED HANDGUN
Motorcycle police teams affiliated with the Kağıthane Patrol Teams Directorate caught Kenan A. with the unlicensed handgun he used in the incident, which had been converted from a blank-firing gun. It was determined that Kenan A. had 3 records for the crime of “threat”. Kenan A., who was referred to the courthouse after procedures at the police station, was arrested for the crime of “intentional injury”.
“LET HER WITHDRAW HER COMPLAINT, OTHERWISE THIS WON'T END WELL”
In his statement at the police station, Kenan A. explained that there were ongoing lawsuits between him and Sibel A. and that about 5-6 months ago he had obtained a restraining order against Sibel A. Claiming that Sibel A. and Erkan K. sent him a message through people around him saying “Let her withdraw her complaint, otherwise this won't end well,” Kenan A. alleged that the pair threatened him by saying “We will make you famous on internet sites; you have better days ahead.”
“I WILL CUT OFF THAT HEAD OF YOURS” ALLEGATION
Kenan A., who stated that he had encountered Erkan K. at a market at around 19:30 on the evening before the incident and that a brief conversation took place between them, claimed that after he returned home, Erkan K. called him on the phone. Kenan A. said the following in his statement:
“He called again and, addressing me, swore at me again, saying ‘Where are you?’ When I told him ‘I'm at home, man,’ he said, ‘Wait, I'm coming; I will cut off that head of yours.’ Before half an hour had passed, he came to the door. I did not go downstairs. Erkan was shouting downstairs with insulting words such as ‘Come down, I will cut off that head of yours, I will kill you.’”
“I DEFINITELY DID NOT FIRE AT SIBEL”
Kenan A., who said he went downstairs to talk, claimed that Erkan K. took out a double-edged, sword-like object from his waist and walked toward him. Kenan A. continued his statement as follows:
“I said, ‘Don't come, or it will end badly.’ He kept coming, and then I fired one shot into the air as a warning. When Erkan continued coming at me with the sword-like object in his hand, I remember firing 3 shots targeting Erkan's foot. I definitely did not fire at Sibel A. I do not know how Sibel was injured. After firing at Erkan's foot, I went upstairs and called an ambulance and the teams.”
