During a swimming lesson in England, 7-year-old Junior, whose left side went numb, suffered a stroke due to doctors sending him home saying 'there's nothing wrong' and a weeks-long delay in correct diagnosis. While the hospital management, which ignored the stroke symptoms that artificial intelligence had identified, launched an investigation into the incident, the young child, who emerged from a coma, miraculously managed to walk, but permanent damage remained in his brain.
Junior Fahr, a 7-year-old living in East Sussex, England, felt tingling and weakness on his left side during a swimming lesson. His mother, Evangelynne Williams, asked an artificial intelligence application about the symptoms, and upon receiving a "stroke" response, she immediately took her son to the hospital. However, doctors sent the young child home after superficial tests.
DIAGNOSIS WAS DELAYED, HIS CONDITION WORSENED
Six weeks later, Junior was hospitalized again with complaints of vomiting, delirium, and unresponsiveness. While the family was kept waiting for hours, medical staff only gave the child anti-nausea medication and attributed the symptoms to extreme heat. After Junior began having seizures and due to the persistent pressure from his grandmothers, senior doctors intervened and detected that a vessel in the child's brain was blocked, and he had suffered a stroke.
MIRACULOUS RECOVERY AND BRAIN DAMAGE
Junior, who was rushed into emergency surgery and remained in a coma for three weeks, was diagnosed by doctors as "may never walk again." Although the young child, discharged from the hospital, managed to walk and speak again, permanent damage occurred in his brain due to the stroke. His mother stated that her 7-year-old son's behavior regressed to that of a baby.
Officials from University Hospitals Sussex, to which the hospital is affiliated, launched an investigation into the incident and apologized to the family. Junior's rehabilitation process continues through a fundraising campaign initiated by his mother.
