In the US, a 6-year-old child playing in front of their home came face to face with a black bear charging toward them. The family's dog, named Bella, attacked the bear and saved the child, with the moment captured on security camera. For her bravery, Bella was also awarded by local authorities.
The incident that took place in Torrington, Connecticut, USA, was recorded second by second by a security camera. A large black bear suddenly started running towards 6-year-old Colton, who was playing in front of the house.
THE DOG ACTED IMMEDIATELY UPON SEEING THE BEAR
The family's husky mix dog named Bella, upon realizing the bear was heading towards the child, attacked without hesitation. Barking fiercely, Bella chased after the bear and managed to drive it away from the property.
Panicking as it tried to escape, the bear crashed into a boat in the garden and then disappeared into the wooded area between the houses.
"THE DOG BIT THE BEAR"
The child's father, Jeffrey Tazzara, said he was preparing the car when he heard Bella barking unusually different from normal. Tazzara recounted that Bella caught up with the bear and bit its hindquarters, causing the panicked bear to crash into their boat before fleeing into the forest.
REWARD FOR THE HERO DOG
For her bravery, Bella was specially rewarded at the family's next steak dinner. Not stopping there, the heroic dog was also honored with a legislative certificate of appreciation and dog treat prizes by Connecticut State Representative Joe Canino and State Senator Stephen Harding.
Senator Harding stated in his social media post, "Some heroes wear capes, others walk on four paws."
BEAR WARNING IN THE REGION
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection stated that only black bears live in the state and their population is increasing, warning citizens to be cautious. Officials recommended measures such as not leaving trash outside, not leaving pet food outdoors overnight, and reducing food odors.
