The Ministry of Health took action regarding a private hospital in Istanbul where an accountant was negotiating the price of a stent during the emergency intervention of a patient who suffered a heart attack. The ministry suspended the activities of the relevant unit of the hospital. Additionally, the hospital was fined administratively.
A scandalous incident occurred at a private hospital in Istanbul. B.T., who went to the hospital with chest pain, was taken to the operating room for angiography. While the surgery was ongoing, the hospital's accountant entered the operating room without wearing any protective clothing. The accountant began to negotiate with the patient who was undergoing emergency intervention.
"THE LOWEST I CAN DO IS 10"
It was heard that the accountant told the patient on the operating table, "I can do 15, I can do 18, I can do 35. The lowest I can do is 10." Following the shocking images, the Ministry of Health initiated an investigation.
ACTIVITIES OF THE RELEVANT UNIT OF THE HOSPITAL HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED
A statement regarding the issue was released. The statement indicated that the activities of the relevant unit of the hospital in question have been suspended.
Furthermore, in its initial statement regarding the issue, the ministry said: "The images reported in the media about price negotiations during an angiography procedure for our citizen at a private healthcare institution in Istanbul have saddened us all. Our Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate has immediately intervened in this incident and has initiated an extraordinary inspection process at the relevant hospital. According to our regulations, necessary stents that comply with standards are to be placed in such emergency cases, and no fees can be requested. The health of any citizen cannot be a subject of negotiation. Our Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate will apply the necessary administrative sanctions. Currently, our extraordinary inspection teams are continuing their inspections at the relevant hospital."
