Following the 5.9 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Crete in the Mediterranean, 17 aftershocks were recorded in the last 24 hours, with some earthquakes also felt along the Datça coast.
Seismic activity that has been increasing in the Mediterranean over the past week continues. While earthquakes off the coast of Crete raise concerns in the region, 17 tremors of magnitude 3.6 and above have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
TREMORS CONTINUE FOLLOWING THE 5.9 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE
Aftershocks persist in the region after the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred around the island of Crete yesterday morning. Another earthquake of magnitude 5.0 was recorded at 11:58 AM on the same day.
THE LATEST EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED DURING THE NIGHT
According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Earthquake Department, the latest earthquake in the region occurred at 04:47 AM tonight. The tremor, which took place at a depth of approximately 4.96 kilometers, measured 3.8 in magnitude.
TREMORS WERE ALSO FELT ON TURKEY'S COASTS
Some of the earthquakes off the coast of Crete were also felt in Turkey. Citizens, particularly in the Datça district of Muğla, felt the tremors.
