A new claim has come from the foreign press regarding Turkey's S-400 air defense systems purchased from Russia. While the Israeli press suggested that Egypt is considering buying S-400s from Turkey, the Greek press wrote that a potential sale could affect the balance of power in the Eastern Mediterranean and the 'Blue Homeland' strategy. These claims have not yet been confirmed by official sources.
A new claim has been added to the allegations that Türkiye's S-400 air defense systems purchased from Russia could be sent to a third country.
According to reports in the Israeli press, it has been suggested that Egypt is considering the possibility of purchasing the Russian-made S-400 air defense systems in Türkiye's inventory.
EGYPT CLAIM FROM ISRAELI PRESS
The reports noted that the Egyptian army, which currently possesses S-300VM air defense systems, also uses Russian-made Tor-M1 and Buk-M2 systems.
It was claimed that the Cairo administration might be interested in the S-400s in Türkiye as part of its strategy to diversify its arms supply sources. The Israeli press reported that such a possibility is viewed with concern from Israel's perspective.
GREEK PRESS ALSO ADDRESSES THE CLAIM
Following the reports in the Israeli press, the issue was also widely covered in Greece. The Greek press wrote that Egypt has been added to the previously proposed scenarios that the S-400s could be sent to Qatar or the United Arab Emirates.
The Greek press, which claims that the administration of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is seriously considering the possibility of purchasing the S-400s, commented on the development with the phrase, "Things are going from bad to worse for Greece."
THEY DREW ATTENTION TO TÜRKİYE-EGYPT RAPPROCHEMENT
The assessments in the Greek press also highlighted the recent development of military relations between Türkiye and Egypt. For this reason, it was argued that the possibility of sending the S-400s to Egypt could be stronger compared to other scenarios.
However, it was also noted that these claims are currently mere speculation and that no official statement has been made by Türkiye or Egypt on the matter.
"BLUE HOMELAND" DETAIL DRAWS ATTENTION
The Greek press argued that a possible S-400 sale could have consequences not only in its military dimension but also for the balance of power in the Eastern Mediterranean. It was claimed that integrating the S-400s into Egypt's air defense network could contribute to Türkiye's "Blue Homeland" strategy.
In the assessment in the Greek press, the following statements were included: "At the root of such a development may lie Ankara's effort to determine a Turkish-Egyptian exclusive economic zone east of the 28th meridian, without taking into account the influence of the Kastellorizo complex (the surroundings of Meis Island)." There has been no official confirmation from Turkish or Egyptian authorities regarding the sale or transfer of the S-400s yet.
