The suspect, who reportedly pushed the woman to the ground to carry out the attack, fled the scene on foot. New York police, who released security camera footage, are searching for the attacker, who has not yet been caught.
A 38-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in the middle of the street in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.
According to information provided by the New York Police Department (NYPD), the incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 3:15 a.m. near 15th Street and Fifth Avenue in the Park Slope area.
APPROACHED FROM BEHIND AND PUSHED HER TO THE GROUND
According to reports citing police sources, the suspect approached the woman on the street from behind. It was stated that the attacker pushed the woman onto the sidewalk and then sexually assaulted her.
After the assault, the suspect fled the area on foot. It was reported that the attacker, whose direction of escape could not be determined, had not yet been apprehended as of Sunday afternoon.
SURVEILLANCE CAMERA FOOTAGE RELEASED
The NYPD shared surveillance camera images of the suspect with the public following the attack.
According to police information, the suspect was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, gray shorts, a beige hat, and black-and-white sneakers.
INCREASE IN SEXUAL CRIMES IN THE AREA
According to NYPD data, sexual crimes recorded in the 72nd Police Precinct, responsible for the area where the incident occurred, increased by 8.1 percent compared to the previous year. It was noted that the number of reported cases rose from 37 last year to 40 this year.
Police are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend the attacker.
