Egypt Says Arrested Nusra Member Returning From Syria

Egyptian security agencies have arrested a member of Al-Qaeada-linked Al-Nusra Front militant group upon his return from Syria, the country's authorities said.



The Homeland Security Agency managed to arrest "one of the most dangerous Al-Nusra elements" identified as Mohamed Ibrahim al-Desouki, 34, after his return from Syria, the Interior Ministry said late Saturday.



Al-Desouki was arrested in his homeland village of Daqados in the Nile Delta province of Daqahliya "in the possession of various foreign banknotes as well as documents revealing terrorist plots that he indented to carry out inside the country," the ministry statement said.



According to the release, al-Desouki received "training in street-fighting tactics and weapons handling" while being in Syria fighting along with Al-Nusra Front. Yet, it did not say when he had been arrested.



This was not the first time the Egyptian authorities announce the arrest of an Egyptian member of Al-Nusra Front upon his return home.



There are no official numbers of the Egyptians who traveled to Syria to fight along with militant groups against the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
