The 40-year-old experienced footballer, who last played for Brighton, announced on his social media account that he has ended his professional football career.

Stating that the time has come to end his career, Milner explained his farewell with these words: "After 24 seasons in the Premier League, I think it's time to end my football career. From playing my first match at 16 for Leeds United, the club I have supported since childhood, and becoming the youngest goalscorer in the Premier League; to helping Brighton qualify for European competition for the second time in their history at age 40, despite barely being able to lift my leg last year, it's a journey I could never have dreamed of."

The veteran midfielder, who competed at the highest level throughout his career, played for Leeds United, where he came through the academy, as well as Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Brighton.
