A citizen who paid exactly 840 TL for 3 scoops of ice cream at a shopping mall in Istanbul rebelled through a video shared on social media. The aggrieved woman stated that the price list was hidden and that an extra charge was secretly added by asking "Would you like chocolate sauce?" She reacted strongly to the situation. The woman, almost enraged by the exorbitant price, exposed the businesses' deceit by saying, "This isn't inflation; this is blatantly ripping off the public."
A citizen spending time with their family at a shopping mall in Istanbul was shocked when they saw the bill for the ice cream they ate. The woman, who stated she paid 840 TL for just 3 scoops of ice cream, rebelled against the exorbitant prices in a video she shared on social media.
"IT'S NEITHER A HOLIDAY RESORT NOR A LUXURY VENUE, IT'S A REGULAR PUBLIC MALL"
In the video, which quickly went viral on social media, the aggrieved citizen emphasized that the place they visited was not a luxury establishment and said the following:
"How much did we pay for 3 scoops of ice cream, friends? Let me tell you: we paid 840 TL. And we didn't pay this at any holiday resort or luxury venue. It was at a regular mall in Istanbul that everyone goes to, the public goes to, on the Kağıthane side."
"WOULD YOU LIKE CHOCOLATE SAUCE?" TRAP
The consumer, who stated they didn't notice at first due to the price list being written very small and expected a maximum amount of around 200 TL, described the "sauce trick" at the ice cream counter with these words:
"They wrote the price list very small. Normally, I always check it. I thought it would be 200 TL at most. They asked, 'Would you like chocolate sauce on top?' They usually ask about chocolate, and I've never encountered an extra charge for it anywhere. I said 'Yes.' Apparently, they just drew a line of chocolate sauce over the ice cream and charged 80 lira for that sauce too. In total, with 3 scoops of ice cream at 200 lira each and the sauces, we paid 840 TL."
"THEY'RE SCREWING US OVER BEAUTIFULLY"
The citizen, stating that this situation cannot be explained by economic reasons and is purely consumer abuse, ended their reaction with harsh words:
"This isn't called inflation, friends. This is literally called 'being ripped off.' They're screwing us over beautifully."
