With the arrival of summer months, measures against forest fires have been increased. The Mersin Governor's Office announced that entry into forested areas across the province is prohibited until October 30. The Governor's Office also stated that legal and administrative actions will be taken against those who violate the ban.
Some measures have been taken against forest fires in Mersin.
BANNED UNTIL OCTOBER 30
In a statement from the governor's office, it was stated that additional measures have been taken across the city to protect forests and ensure the safety of life and property of citizens due to the increasing temperature, low humidity, and strong winds in the summer season.
The statement noted that entry into forested areas within the borders of Mersin is banned until October 30, and it was reported that entry into forested areas will not be allowed except for licensed hunting activities.
FIRE, FIREWORKS, AND WISH BALLOONS ALSO PROHIBITED
In the statement, it was expressed that lighting fires in and around forested areas, as well as using fireworks, wish balloons, and flammable materials within 4 kilometers of forests, and burning vegetation for stubble, vineyard, garden, and field cleaning are prohibited.
It was reported that the use of welding machines, grinders, and equipment that may produce sparks in open areas inside and adjacent to forests is prohibited, and mandatory work will only be carried out with the knowledge and supervision of the forest administration, with necessary fire precautions and permits obtained.
WARNING TO PROPERTY OWNERS
In the statement, it was stated that property owners adjacent to forested areas are obliged to clear flammable materials within their properties along the forest boundary to create a fire safety strip.
In the statement, it was reported that maintenance and inspection work on power transmission lines will be increased against fire risk, and it was stated that controlled energy cuts may be implemented if deemed necessary.
MUNICIPALITIES AND AFAD ALSO INVOLVED
In the statement, which noted that all public institutions, municipalities, and law enforcement units will work in full coordination in combating forest fires, it was stated: "Municipalities will ensure the cleaning of waste storage areas, roadsides, and flammable materials around the forest, and will keep work machines ready. Evacuation plans and assembly areas will be created under the coordination of AFAD, and rescue and evacuation efforts will be carried out in potential fires."
In the statement, it was reported that judicial and administrative actions will be taken against those acting contrary to the decisions and measures taken.
