The leader of the New Welfare Party, Fatih Erbakan, reacted strongly to the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Erbakan stated, "To detain a mayor who would come when called to the Istanbul Courthouse, treating him like a fugitive and taking him from his home in the early hours of the morning, is practically breaking down the door of the law. Playing with Turkey's standards and undermining justice benefits no one."

Leader of the New Welfare Party, Fatih Erbakan, shared a message of support for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was detained as part of a corruption and terrorism investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

"THIS IS LITERALLY BREAKING THE DOOR OF LAW"

In a statement regarding the issue on his X account, Erbakan said, "When you call a mayor to the Istanbul Courthouse and treat him as if he is a fugitive or will flee, detaining him from his home in the early hours of the morning is practically breaking the door of law. It is neither just nor a rightful attitude to make others experience the injustices you have faced in the past, at an even higher level."

"IN A PERIOD WHEN DIALOGUE IS ESTABLISHED WITH THE LEADER OF A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION..."

This attitude, which tramples both politics and justice, summarizes the transition from a "rule of law" to a "state of prosecutors and judges." Associating the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality with the same terrorist organization during a period when dialogue is established with the leader of that terrorist organization is also a contradictory situation.

"TODAY WE STAND FOR LAW AND JUSTICE"

As the New Welfare Party, we stand for law and justice today, as we always have. We uphold the will of the nation, which is manifested through democratic means. Until proven otherwise, we remind everyone of the fundamental legal presumption that innocence is the essence.

There is no benefit to anyone in playing with Turkey's settings, undermining the justice that is the foundation of the State, and striking a blow to the search for trust and stability that the economy needs."
