EU Cybersecurity Center To Open Its New Headquarters In Romania On Tuesday

08.05.2023 15:42

Romanian Premier Nicolae Ciuca to attend European Cybersecurity Competence Center’s inauguration on Polytechnic University campus in Bucharest.

The new headquarters of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre will open its doors on Tuesday in Bucharest, Romania's capital.

The primary objectives of the center, which is established on the Polytechnic University campus, are to facilitate innovation and industrial policy in the field of cybersecurity, as well as to oversee related development and coordination projects across the EU.

The center's responsibilities also include the management of EU cybersecurity funds for the current long-term EU budget (2021-2027).

European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said in a statement posted on the EU's website that cybersecurity is a critical priority and that safeguarding the EU's digital sovereignty requires collaborative efforts.

"The European Cybersecurity Competence Centre brings together top-tier experts and resources from across the EU to develop innovative solutions to cyber threats and enhance our resilience against attacks. By working together, we can build a safer and more secure digital world for all Europeans," he said.

Europe's new center will also serve the purpose of faster recruitment for talent in the IT and cybersecurity worlds, in coordination with the bloc's key research and innovation funding program, Horizon Europe, as well as the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL), an EU funding platform focused on bringing digital technology closer together for businesses, citizens, and public administrations, said the statement.

The center's inauguration ceremony, which will be live-streamed on digital platforms, will be attended by Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca and senior Commission officials. -
