Thousands shed tears at the funeral held today. Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek was seriously injured three days ago after being electrocuted on the first day of Eid al-Adha. Zeyrek, who was fighting for his life in intensive care, passed away yesterday. A heartfelt funeral ceremony attended by tens of thousands was held today in Manisa for Mayor Zeyrek. As tears flowed, citizens from all walks of life, from city politics to the art world, young and old, were present.
Emotional moments were experienced at the farewell ceremony held for Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek. Famous actor Kubilay Penbeklioğlu, who attended the ceremony, moved everyone with his speech. Penbeklioğlu spoke about Zeyrek's contributions to Manisa and the marks he left behind. Struggling to hold back tears during his speech, Penbeklioğlu said, "Ferdi Zeyrek was born and raised in this land. He walked with the prayers of his mother and father. After his university education, he returned to Manisa, where he became both a businessman and a husband. He built a happy home with his beloved wife, Nurcan Hanım. He was living a peaceful family life with his daughters, Nehir Elif and Zeynep," he expressed.
Penbeklioğlu also touched upon Zeyrek's tenure as mayor, expressing the value he added to the city in a short time with these words: "When he was elected mayor on March 31, 2024, some called him 'brother', some 'uncle', some 'father', and some 'brother'. But he was most of all our Ferdi. He was everyone's mayor. With his smiling face, sincerity, and hard work, he won hearts." In the final part of his speech, a deep silence enveloped the hall. Penbeklioğlu concluded his words by saying, "Ferdi Zeyrek showed this city a film. He demonstrated that spring could come. He planted hope and faith in our hearts. Today, as we bid him farewell to eternity, there is a great void in our hearts and a lump in our throats."
The funeral prayer for Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, who lost his 66-hour battle for life after being electrocuted, was held at Cumhuriyet Square. Thousands of citizens who attended the funeral prayer could not fit in the square. After the prayer, Ferdi Zeyrek's body was buried in the family cemetery at Çatal Cemetery.
