“My wonderful hero and the greatest gift given to me, my mother Diane Ladd, passed away this morning while I was by her side,” said Dern, expressing that her mother spent her last moments peacefully at their home in California. The famous actress did not share any information regarding the cause of her mother's death.
“SHE WAS A GREAT ARTIST AND A COMPASSIONATE SOUL”
In her statement, Laura Dern said, “She was the greatest artist, mother, grandmother, actress, and a compassionate soul one could imagine. It was a privilege to know her.” Diane Ladd's career in film and theater spanned several decades. The actress gained significant recognition for her role as a waitress in Martin Scorsese's 1974 film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, for which she was nominated for an Oscar. HER FAMILY AND PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
Diane Ladd was married to actor Bruce Dern from 1960 to 1969. The couple had two children: Laura Dern and Diane Elizabeth Dern, who tragically passed away in an accident at a young age. Reflecting on the pain of losing her daughter, who drowned in a pool at 18 months old in 1962, Ladd stated in an interview in 2023, “You never get over this.” Ladd worked alongside her daughter Laura Dern in many projects. They portrayed mother-daughter characters in David Lynch's Wild at Heart and the HBO series Enlightened. The duo made history as the first mother-daughter pair to be nominated for an Oscar in the same year for the 1991 film Rambling Rose.
