THEY BLOCKED THE ROAD AND DUMPED CRATES OF TOMATOES

Tomato and pepper farmers in Kahramanmaraş protested the fact that their products remained unsold due to low prices. The farmers formed a convoy with tractors and blocked the Kahramanmaraş-Gaziantep road. The farmers dumped their remaining crates of tomatoes on the road.

"WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TOMORROW"

Ünal Ateş, the CHP Provincial Chairman of Kahramanmaraş, spoke about the farmers' protest. Ateş said that many farmers in Kahramanmaraş may not be able to sow their fields. He stated the following: "Farmers gathered in the Pınarlı district and expressed their demands, addressing the authorities. Farmers say that last year we sold wheat for 9 liras, but this year we sold it for 8 liras. Did our input costs decrease or increase? Farmers say that we planted sunflowers with great hope, but we can't sell them because there is no demand. Farmers who planted corn don't know what will happen to their fields tomorrow."

"FARMERS NO LONGER WANT TO ENTER THEIR FIELDS"

The base price is not announced. Farmers no longer want to enter their fields. They are almost at the point of selling their tractors and fields. A society that does not produce cannot exist. We need to support the farmers who produce. The farmer who produces should be able to sell their products at a fair price so that they can cultivate their fields the following year, but next year, many farmers in Kahramanmaraş may not be able to sow their fields, they may not be able to produce."
