The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) accused North Korea of stealing digital assets worth $6.3 billion from cryptocurrency exchange Binance.
In a statement from the FBI, it was reported that North Korea was assessed to be behind the theft on October 29 and that the cyber activity in question was linked to an entity known as "TraderTraitor".
STOLEN ASSETS WERE CONVERTED TO ETHEREUM
The statement noted that, as part of the FBI's work with the US Secret Service and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation unit, it was observed that the attackers converted the stolen assets mainly into Ethereum (ETH).
In the statement, which said the stolen assets are expected to continue to be laundered by being converted through decentralized finance platforms and instant swap services to prepare for subsequent laundering stages, cryptocurrency addresses that hold or have held assets linked to the theft and that are stated to be operated by or closely connected to North Korea-linked TraderTraitor actors were also shared.
The FBI called on private organizations in the cryptocurrency sector to block transactions made with or originating from TraderTraitor-linked addresses.
