Galatasaray defeated Lille 4-2 away in the third week of the UEFA Champions League and secured its first victory. With this result, the yellow-reds raised their points to 3.
In the third week of the UEFA Champions League, Lille and Galatasaray faced each other. Galatasaray won the match played at Pierre Mauroy 4-2.
HISTORIC GOAL FROM YUNUS AKGÜN
Galatasaray took the lead in the 2nd minute. From Barış Alper Yılmaz's cross on the left wing, Alexsandro, positioned on the six-yard line, headed the ball into the six-yard box. Yunus Akgün found the loose ball in front of him around the penalty spot, and his shot found the net. This goal was the earliest goal in the yellow-and-reds' Champions League history.
LILLE'S RESPONSE DID NOT TAKE LONG
Lille equalised in the 7th minute. From Alexsandro's through ball, Diaoune ran in behind the defence, rounded goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır, and struck the net from the left angle of the penalty area.
GALATASARAY'S PENALTY CANCELLED
In the 28th minute, Galatasaray's penalty was overturned by VAR. From Yunus Akgün's through ball, Osimhen ran in behind the defence and entered the penalty area; at that moment Berke Özer went down to try to control the ball. After Osimhen fell in this position, referee Rade Obrenovic initially awarded a penalty. After reviewing the incident again following VAR's warning, Obrenovic decided there was no foul and cancelled the penalty.
THE FRENCH TEAM TOOK THE LEAD
Lille took the lead in the 39th minute. From a long ball played from midfield, Bakwa ran in behind the defence; his shot from the right angle of the penalty area was parried by goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır. Haraldsson, who found the loose ball in front of him on the penalty spot, passed it, and Diaoune, who met the ball just behind the six-yard box, found the net.
THE EQUALISER CAME BEFORE HALF-TIME
Galatasaray equalised in the 44th minute. From Sallai's cross from the right wing, Batrakov headed the ball at the near post and found the net.
GALATASARAY BACK IN FRONT WITH TORREIRA
Galatasaray took the lead again in the 52nd minute. Sara sent his corner cross to the near post. Lucas Torreira sent the ball into the net with a superb header.
THE GAP WIDENED WITH OSIMHEN
Galatasaray increased the gap to 2 in the 61st minute. In the attack started by Batrakov, the ball came to Osimhen. The Nigerian star passed to Barış Alper Yılmaz, and Osimhen met the ball that Barış crossed back in to find the net. Osimhen, who scored against his former team, did not celebrate.
GALATASARAY WON FOR THE FIRST TIME
No further goals were scored in the remainder of the match, and Galatasaray won the contest. With this result, Okan Buruk's team earned their first victory in the Champions League and rose to 3 points. Lille failed to pick up points in their third match as well. In the next matchweek of the Champions League, Galatasaray will host Stuttgart at home. Lille will travel away to Bodo/Glimt.
