It has been revealed that a 33-year-old woman, who has been missing since 2009 in the Şehzadeler district of Manisa, was killed by her former brother-in-law with whom she had an illicit relationship. Following a confession that came 17 years later, bone and skull fragments belonging to the young woman, who is also claimed to have been pregnant at the time of her death, were found during an excavation in the Kemalpaşa district of İzmir. Four suspects are in custody in connection with the incident.
A 60-year-old woman named M.K., residing in the Sancaklıiğdecik neighborhood of the Şehzadeler district in Manisa, applied to the gendarmerie on October 1, 2025, around 21:00, reporting that her daughter E.K. left home in December 2009 and that she had not heard from her in 17 years. After informing the public prosecutor, an investigation was initiated regarding the incident.
FORBIDDEN LOVE WITH THE BROTHER-IN-LAW
Investigations revealed that the missing E.K. had a forbidden relationship with her former brother-in-law U.K. that lasted approximately 3 years, resulting in her becoming pregnant, and she disappeared after the pregnancy became known. Considering that the incident may have occurred within the family, a confidentiality decision was made in the investigation.
4 SUSPECTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Based on witness statements and field studies, reasonable suspicion arose that E.K. may have been killed by her sister F.K., her former brother-in-law U.K., and her step-siblings M.K. and A.K. Under the coordination of the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, F.K., residing in the Kağızman district of Kars, U.K. and M.K., residing in İzmir, and A.K., residing in Manisa, were captured and taken into custody on February 23, 2026, by the JASAT teams of the Manisa Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Şehzadeler District Gendarmerie Command in a simultaneous operation.
CONFESSED EVERYTHING
Suspect U.K. confessed during his interrogation at the gendarmerie that he killed E.K. and stated that he could show the location of the body. Following this, on February 24, 2026, the JASAT teams of the Manisa Provincial Gendarmerie Command, the teams of the Şehzadeler District Gendarmerie Command, the teams of the İzmir Kemalpaşa District Gendarmerie Command, and the Kemalpaşa Crime Scene Investigation Team went to the Armutlu neighborhood of Kemalpaşa in İzmir.
Upon the suspect's indication, a search and excavation operation was initiated in a garden starting from 11:30, where numerous bones and skull fragments believed to belong to E.K., who had been missing since 2009, were found. The discovered bone fragments were reported to be preserved for identification and examination to be sent to the Forensic Medicine Institution.
It was reported that the procedures for suspects F.K., U.K., M.K., and A.K. in custody were ongoing under the instruction of the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
