Former Adana Demirspor President Ali Sancak has been detained as part of the 'betting and match-fixing in football' investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office targeting sports club executives. Ali Sancak's father, former club president Murat Sancak, had previously been arrested on the same charge.
Former Adana Demirspor President Ali Sancak is among those detained in the “Football betting and match-fixing” investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Office for Illegal Betting and Sports Crimes against former club officials. Ali Sancak's father, Murat Sancak, had also been previously arrested for the same crime.
17 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY
In the investigation announced by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, detention orders were issued for 19 individuals, including former executives of major sports clubs such as Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, and Adana Demirspor. In operations centered in Istanbul this morning, 17 people were detained. It was learned that 2 individuals are abroad.
HE PLACED BETS AGAINST HIS OWN CLUB
Former Adana Demirspor President Ali Sancak is among the names detained in the operation. It is assessed that Ali Sancak placed 7 betting slips on matches of his own club during his tenure, favoring the opposing team or on goal bets.
HIS FATHER WAS ALSO ARRESTED FOR THE SAME CRIME
Murat Sancak, the former Adana Demirspor President and father of Ali Sancak, was also detained in the “Football betting and match-fixing” investigation and was arrested for this crime on December 9, 2025.
Murat Sancak was released in January 2026 under judicial control with house arrest conditions.
