The former Chairman of the Constitutional and Justice Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, AK Party Member of Parliament Ahmet İyimaya, passed away at the age of 74.

Former AK Party Member of Parliament Ahmet İyimaya passed away in Ankara. İyimaya's funeral will be held tomorrow after the afternoon prayer at Kocatepe Mosque, and he will be buried at Gölbaşı Cemetery.

Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş stated in a social media post, "I learned with sorrow about the passing of our dear brother Ahmet İyimaya, who served as a Member of Parliament for Amasya and Ankara and held the presidency of the Constitutional and Justice Commissions in our Grand National Assembly of Turkey. I pray for God's mercy upon our esteemed elder, and I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones. May his place be paradise."

AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik expressed in his condolence message, "We are very sad... Our pain is immense... Our esteemed elder, our Member of Parliament Ahmet İyimaya, who walked shoulder to shoulder with us on difficult political paths, has passed away. He was a wise jurist, a qualified politician, and a devoted worker of our path dedicated to the nation. May God have mercy on him. May his place be paradise. May the heads of his valuable family, our nation, and our comrades be held high."

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum shared on social media, "May our heads be held high. We have lost our brother Ahmet İyimaya. He was a very valuable politician and legal figure who never hesitated to speak the truth, loved democracy, and was passionate about books. May God have mercy on him. May his place be paradise."

WHO IS AHMET İYİMAYA?

Ahmet İyimaya, born on November 22, 1950, in Amasya, graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law. A father of three, İyimaya was elected as a Member of Parliament for Amasya from the True Path Party in the 20th and 21st terms, and as a Member of Parliament for Ankara from the AK Party in the 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th terms. İyimaya served as the Chairman of the Justice Commission in the 23rd and 24th terms and also served as a member of the Constitutional Reconciliation Commission.
