Shantou streets literally witnessed a "money rain" around noon today. An elderly woman who opened her apartment window began throwing bundles of banknotes in her hand down. Citizens who saw 1000 HKD banknotes floating down from the sky, after a brief shock, competed with each other to grab the money.

According to witness statements and footage reflected on social media, the elderly woman's action was not limited to a single instance. The woman, who repeatedly came to the window and scattered money down, drew attention by throwing each bundle containing approximately 100,000 units of banknotes with a relaxed attitude "as if throwing trash." The total amount scattered on the street is estimated to be around 1 million HKD (approximately 6 million Turkish Lira).
A STAMPEDE OCCURRED
While traffic came to a near standstill during the moments when money was flying through the air, drivers and pedestrians passing by formed a large stampede to collect the money. It was seen that some citizens made dangerous moves to retrieve money caught on tree branches.
Following the incident, it was learned that police teams were dispatched to the area and an investigation was launched into why the elderly woman carried out this behavior.
