A fire that started in a grassland area in Silivri quickly grew due to the wind and reached the vicinity of the TEM Highway. Due to the flames, the highway was closed to traffic in both directions, and after intensive intervention by teams, transportation in the area has begun to be restored in a controlled manner. It has been reported that there have been no fatalities or injuries in the fire so far.
A fire that started in a field area in Istanbul's Silivri district quickly grew with the effect of the wind and reached the TEM Highway. Many teams were dispatched to the region, and the highway was closed to traffic in both directions for a while due to the fire. After the fire was brought under control, transportation began to be provided again in a controlled manner.
TEM CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
A fire broke out around 14:00 in the grassy area between the Fener, Akören, and Alipaşa neighborhoods in Silivri. As the flames spread rapidly due to the wind, fire brigades, AFAD, the Regional Directorate of Forestry, and health teams were dispatched to the region.
As the flames reached the vicinity of the TEM Highway, the highway was closed to traffic in both directions for security reasons. After the intervention carried out by teams from the ground and air, the part of the fire around the highway was brought under control.
PREVENTIVE EVACUATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT
Precautions were increased against the possibility of the fire reaching nearby residential areas and businesses. It was decided to evacuate the Karbey rest stop located on the highway, as well as a farm and a lien scrap yard, as a precautionary measure.
The Istanbul Governorship announced that there were no casualties or injuries in the region due to the fire.
TRANSPORTATION ON TEM HIGHWAY IS PROVIDED IN A CONTROLLED MANNER
After the fire was brought under control, vehicle traffic on the TEM Highway was restarted in a controlled manner. It was learned that teams are continuing cooling and inspection work in the region.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire.
