The fire that broke out in Büyük Valide Hanı, one of the most important structures on Istanbul's historical peninsula, caused panic. Flames rising from the attic of the historic building, commissioned by Kösem Sultan in the 17th century and protected as cultural heritage, created great concern in the vicinity, while firefighting teams dispatched to the area began efforts to bring the fire under control.
A fire broke out on the roof of the historic Büyük Valide Han in Fatih, Istanbul. Built in the 17th century by Kösem Sultan and a registered historical heritage under protection since 1983, the flames rising from the top floor quickly grew, causing panic. Upon notification, numerous fire, health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
HISTORICAL FABRIC CONSUMED BY FLAMES
The roof of the three-courtyard colossal han caught fire for an undetermined reason. The fire at the han, which has housed shops, warehouses, and workshops of textile and metal artisans for centuries, left the area covered in smoke.
TEAMS' RESPONSE CONTINUES
Police teams took extensive security measures around the area, closing the street to traffic and pedestrian passage, while firefighters made intense efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the han and its historic rooms. An investigation has been initiated by security and firefighter teams to determine the cause of the fire.
