Gergerlioğlu noted that he had previously visited Narin Güran's village regarding the incident and examined the case file in detail. "When I combined my observations in the village, the information in the file, and what I heard today, I concluded that this mother and brother have no connection to the murder," he said. Emphasizing that the decision is not accepted in the conscience of the public, Gergerlioğlu stated, "When I combined the entire event structure with what they saw in the village, what they read in the file, and what the mother and Enes told, I saw that these two people were unjustly and heavily sentenced and imprisoned with a very severe and unfair decision."
"THE PUBLIC CONSCIENCE REJECTS THIS DECISION"
Gergerlioğlu reminded that evidence and conscience should be evaluated together in criminal law, saying, "I hope this sentence will be overturned in the appeal. I believe the public conscience will not accept this. Although it is a judicial process. Yes, I am not a judge. There is a judicial process. The judge has made a decision. However, my conscience tells me that these two people are innocent and have no connection to the murder. When you examine the structure of the incident, it becomes very clear. Who is the killer? It should not be so easy to ruin people's lives with incomplete evidence and media agitation, to declare the mother of a murdered girl as a monstrous killer, and to declare a brother as a monstrous killer. Perhaps someone will decide in this world, but I believe that this decision has no counterpart in my conscience," he said.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On August 21, after going missing in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of Bağlar district in Diyarbakır, Narin Güran's body was found in a stream bed on the 19th day of the search efforts. A case was opened against 4 of the 12 people arrested in connection with Narin Güran's murder at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court. In the indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that Narin's uncle Salim Güran, mother Yüksel Güran, and brother Enes Güran confessed that they transported the body to the stream bed after being detained, and according to HTS and base station records, it was determined that they were in the same house at the time of the incident, and aggravated life imprisonment was requested for the crime of 'intentional killing of a child in participation.' In the second hearing of the case, which started on December 26 and ended on December 28, Salim Güran, Enes Güran, and Yüksel Güran were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for 'intentional killing of a child in participation,' while Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for 'destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime.' The court ruled for the continuation of the defendants' detention. The reasoned decision of 944 pages regarding the case was announced on January 23.
