German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the country's historical responsibility for the Holocaust applies equally to immigrants from Islamic countries. Welcoming athletes participating in the Jewish sports event Maccabiah in Berlin, Merz argued that those who do not comply with this responsibility should leave Germany.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Muslim immigrants who do not comply with Germany's historical responsibility for the Holocaust must leave the country.
According to a report by the German news agency DPA, Chancellor Merz received in Berlin athletes who participated in "Maccabiah," a Jewish sports event held in Israel every four years.
ALSO APPLIES TO THOSE COMING FROM ISLAMIC COUNTRIES
In his speech here, pointing to Germany's responsibility for the Holocaust, Merz used the statement, "For those coming to Germany from Islamic countries, our country's historical responsibility applies in exactly the same way. Those who do not comply must leave our country."
REMINDED OF THE HISTORIC 1985 SPEECH
Merz recalled that former German President Richard von Weizaecker said in a speech he gave in the Bundestag in 1985 that young people are not responsible for what happened in the past, but are responsible for how history will be shaped from now on, and said, "And this applies to all German society. On this occasion, I would also like to add; This also applies to immigrants coming to Germany."
